See The Heat

The See The Heat program provides the opportunity to take home a thermal imaging camera that connects to your smart phone to learn more about the energy efficiency of your home. A thermal imaging camera allows you to see how well your house is insulated, how well doors and windows seal, which outlets are particularly leaky, and the effects of leaving chimney flues and dryer doors open when not in use.

Thermal images are an interesting way to see your house in a new light, and learn about the opportunities that you might have to improve the comfort and energy performance of your home.

How to Participate

The thermal imaging camera may be borrowed by any Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) patron in good standing. Cameras are loaned for a maximum of seven days.

When you participate in the program, along with the loaned camera and its components, you receive a free draft-proofing kit (while supplies last) that contains:

  • Electrical switch and outlet draft insulators
  • Window insulation
  • Weather stripping (for doors or windows)

There are also instructions that can be downloaded here to help you get the most out of your time with the camera.

Note: Due to high demand cameras are loaned for a maximum of seven days. There is a late fine of $1 per day. The replacement cost for lost or damaged cameras is $325.

This opportunity is developed through a partnership with the City of Kamloops and Thompson Nicola Regional Library.
