The City's Parks and Street Division work diligently every year to keep our streets, sidewalks, active transportation networks, and other City properties safe and clear of snow and ice.
Snow clearing operations begin after snowfall ends, not while snow is still falling. Below outlines how we prioritize and manage snow clearing within the city.
Snow Clearing Priorities
A review of historic service levels and policies was undertaken in spring 2026, and a new overarching policy was created based on historical and anecdotal data, budget and resource constraints, safety priorities, risk management, and operational realities and efficiencies.
Under the new policy, the City aims to provide a reasonably safe passage for the travelling public while noting the City’s limited financial and other resources available for snow and ice control operations. If there are questions or major concerns on a certain route please contact us at 250-828-3461.
There will be occasions when the transportation network will be covered with snow and ice and the City cannot guarantee bare conditions, nor will the City de-ice or sand the entire transportation network.
City streets are plowed on a priority basis, starting with arterial roads, followed by collectors and bus routes. Residential streets are only attended to once the other streets are cleared.
The City of Kamloops is shining the spotlight on its winter fleet—the hardworking plows and equipment that keep our roads safe and clear during snowstorms.
