Be Prepared - Yourself, Your Family, and Your Home
Be ready in the event of an emergency by having a plan in place. Fill out a Home Emergency Plan and have it ready. The Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness also offers Home Preparedness Guides to help you prepare for different emergency scenarios.
The best way to stay informed in an emergency is to receive emergency alerts through the City's Voyent! Alert system and to understand the difference between an evacuation alert, an evacuation order and a tactical evacuation.

Be Prepared - Your Neighbourhood
Did you know the simple act of meeting your neighbour could help you cope in a disaster? When people know each other in a day-to-day setting, they’re better able to work together during an emergency. Something as simple as checking on your neighbour in an emergency could save a life. A great way to meet your neighbours, or to find out if there is an emergency plan in place for your community, is to connect with your Neighbourhood Association.

Emergency Evacuation Routes
Emergency evacuation (or egress) routes are within various neighbourhoods throughout the city to aid in additional routes of exit from an area threatened by an emergency such as wildfire or flood. During an emergency event, emergency egress routes may not be utilized as each emergency will dictate the evacuation plan set by emergency responders. Residents are instructed to follow the evacuation route directions provided by first responders. Depending on the situation, evacuation orders and direction may be delivered in person or via Voyent! Alert, the City’s emergency alert service.
Access to Emergency Evacuation Routes
In the event of an emergency, the City and emergency responders will determine the safest egress route for residents, dependent on the emergency situation, and provide appropriate direction and traffic control to evacuate residents safely.
The City and emergency responders would ensure the egress route is in safe condition at the time of the event (i.e. no trees across the road; the route is not at risk of compromise from the current situation) before unlocking the gates and escorting public traffic along the route.
