Local Lifeguards Medal at the Canadian Pool Lifesaving Championships

Kamloops, B.C. - Two Kamloops lifeguards returned home with an assortment of medals from the 2010 Canadian Pool Lifesaving Championships that took place in Montréal, Québec last weekend.

Brittany Hollett and Bryce Koronko were competing as members of Team BC, which placed 4th overall in the national event. Both athletes' strong individual performances contributed to the solid Team BC finish.

"This event is traditionally dominated by athletes from Alberta, Ontario and Quebec," said Heidi Ogilvie, Aquatics Coordinator for the City of Kamloops. "Team BC's strong performance is a great indicator that lifesaving sport is starting to take hold in the west."

Hollett won gold in the 100 metre manikin relay, and two silvers in the 200 metre medley and 200 metre obstacle relays. "Nationals was an amazing experience!" said Hollett. She adds, "To have the opportunity to represent the city is a very humbling experience. I just can't thank our sponsors enough for all of their support."

Koronko finished with three golds in the 200 metre obstacle, 200 metre medley and 100 metre manikin relays, as well as one bronze in the line throw event. "It was a great experience and we learned a lot," said Koronko. He adds, "We couldn't have done it without the incredible support of the many people in our community and beyond."
