August 6, 2009 Tournament Capital Centre: Parking Lot Expansion Project Kamloops, B.C. - Beginning August 10th, the City of Kamloops will begin work to expand and improve the parking lot at the Tournament Capital Centre. The $131,000 expansion project awarded to Con-Ex Civil Contractors Ltd. will take place primarily along the lane between the Tournament Capital Centre and Hillside Stadium. In November 2008, City Council approved of the project to add 15, fifteen-minute drop-off parking stalls and 20 general parking stalls, giving a total of 35 new parking stalls. The project will also include the construction of a 'right in/right out' curb structure at the McGill entrance to the Tournament Capital Centre. This will provide safer access to and from the Tournament Capital Centre. Alternate routes such as University Drive and Hillside Drive will be used to access the facility. In addition, construction crews will be installing electrical services to power the new TCC video marquee sign which will be located at the main entrance off McGill Road. Rock Advertising was the successful bidder for the $191,000 video marquee sign project. The City of Kamloops received a $111,000 grant from the Union of BC Municipalities to help offset the cost of the sign project and promote community tourism. Construction will take place between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. We appreciate the public's support as there may be some disruptions and/or delays during these times and we ask the public to exercise caution when navigating around work crews. The anticipated completion date for the parking expansion project is September 4th and the TCC video marquee sign is September 30th. Thank you for your cooperation! - 30 - Media Contact:
