Recycling Depot Information

What We Recycle
The City of Kamloops Recycle Bins accept metal cans, glass, plastic milk jugs, newspapers and corrugated cardboard, and mixed waste paper. Mission Flats is the only landfill that handles recycling for paper, cardboard, and other scrap materials.

Recycling Preparation
Metal Cans: Cleaned, labels removed, flattened.
Glass: Cleaned; lids and labels removed if possible
Plastic: All plastic bottles, food containers and lids with the recycling symbol numbered 1 to 7 will be accepted
Newspapers: Loose into bins, including accompanying flyers only. No catalogues please.
Corrugated Cardboard: Dry, clean, flattened; no boxboard (e.g. cereal boxes or paper rolls, which go in the "Mixed Waste Paper" bin)
Mixed Waste Paper: All non-food contaminated paper products other than corrugated cardboard or newspapers (e.g. cereal boxes, telephone books, magazines, catalogues, "junk mail", egg cartons (not styrofoam), paperback and hard cover books.

Rechargeable Batteries: Diverted at City landfills, or check the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation website for a list of businesses which have drop-off boxes for these batteries.

Batteries: (Lead acid - vehicle batteries) diverted at City landfills, or:

Boxboard: Boxboard is non-corrugated cardboard, typically used in packaging for cereal boxes, shoe boxes, etc. Use the "Mixed Waste Paper" bin at City depots.

* Most places will only take personal quantities (no 45 gallon drums etc). Anti-freeze must be clean and non-contaminated.

Paint: Paint Care Depot - Mission Flats Landfill (Residential Only): No charge for up to 10 five gallon containers of household paints.
No charge Paint Care (Commercial) : 1-800-505-0139

Plastic: Will be accepted at City recycling depots starting June 3rd, 2008.

Solvents/Pesticides: Depot at Mission Flats Landfill - no charge

Tires: Car tires are diverted at City landfills. Recycle them here.
